Clash of Clans developer Supercell is expanding outside of games with plans to bring its top IP to film and TV.

The Finnish mobile games company is hiring for a senior film and TV development executive in LA, California to drive development of the projects. The role requires a proven track record of building creative teams in the mediums, as well as a strong industry network.

As a key part of the position, the job listing mentions monitoring developments in animation, live-action, streaming and traditional theatrical distribution to inform its strategy.

“World-building”

Supercell has developed some of the world’s most successful mobile games, five of which have crossed $1 billion. They include Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, Clash Royale, and Brawl Stars. More recently, it has launched titles such as Squad Busters, which features characters from across its IPs, and Mo.co.

Previously, the company has released a number of animated videos through YouTube, while its Squad Busters marketing campaign saw its most famous characters brought to life with A-List stars.

“We are not simply adapting IP—we are world-building, with the freedom to take risks, move fast, and help grow Supercell’s games into franchises for a global audience,” read the job listing.

It added: “Our current expertise leans heavily into animation and television. We’re looking for someone complementary, with strong film experience and a passion for gaming and animation.”

There have been a number of successful game adaptations to film and TV in recent years, including the critically acclaimed The Last of Us show, Detective Pikachu, The Angry Birds Movie series and the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise, among others.
