Painkiller Returns in Fall 2025, Reimagined with Co-Op Support

by admin

At the Future Games Show: Spring Showcase 2024, Anshar Studios and 3D Realms announced Painkiller, a reimagining of the classic fast-paced first-person shooter franchise. Painkiller will be released later this year on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X and will feature support for online co-op.

Players will once again battle hordes of demons and titanic horrors in richly detailed Gothic environments. Trapped in Purgatory, you are condemned for your transgressions against Heaven. But the voice of the Creator gives you a chance to redeem yourself. As one of the Champions, you must stop the fallen angel Azazel from unleashing his demonic armies on Earth. You will face hordes of enemies, demons with unique powers, and three monstrous children of Azazel – the Nephilim.

Players will jump, dash, and grapple through vast biomes while battling enemies with a variety of new and classic Painkiller weapons. Enemy variety is said to be significant, from hordes of smaller demons to behemoths.

There are some new elements as well. Players can use tarot cards to enhance their abilities and combine them with other players to obliterate their enemies. At launch, the playable roster consists of four characters: Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch, with abilities ranging from Energy, Health, Strength, and Damage.

There are no system requirements yet. No doubt, Anshar Studios and 3D Realms will provide more info in the coming months; until then, stay tuned!
